With Children's Day around the corner, children you all must be very exited. But do you know why we celebrate children’s day?
Children's Day is recognised on various days in many places around the world, to honour children globally. It was first proclaimed by the World Conference for the well-being of children in 1925 and was then established universally in 1954.

Reasons why Children’s Day should be celebrated

Children's Day celebration is the tribute to childhood. John Kennedy, 35th US President has quoted it rightly, 'Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.’
We cannot hide the fact that many children in India are not getting basic privileges like education. Many children are earning money instead of playing with toys. The true essence of children's day is to understand the significance of childhood in our lives.
The values and disciplines learned as a child are responsible for the kind of adulthood one has. Thus childhood is special and should be celebrated. Children's Day is to remind all young and adults about children's right to enjoy their childhood without any boundaries and to be educated adult in the future. Children's Day is to revise the right methods of raising children.
The traits of a child are enough reasons why we should celebrate them. Here are some of the blessings children give to those around them:
1) Innocence
They are pure and untainted from the world. They are sponges that will soak up whatever their environment is in life, good or bad. They have a clean slate and can love anything and do anything if fed with healthy encouragement.
2) Simplicity
Children love the simple pleasures in life. Children are content and happy with the little they have. A child’s pure love for simplicity is refreshing to those around them.
3) Faith
They have so much faith in people and in themselves. Children have no fear in being themselves which in general allows them to be the friendliest age group in the human race. They also have unconditional love towards people, especially towards their parents.
4) Outlook
Children are usually more positive than adults and because of this they help adults see the world through their eyes. They help you rediscover the simple pleasures in life by teaching us adults to slow down. Every moment with a child is an adventure.
5) Light
Children give us so much; they allow us to witness the miracle of beginnings of life and growth. They are precious gifts from God. Children are teachers, they teach parents to be selfless, humble, and compassionate. Children bring out the best in people because they teach us important lessons.

It takes place annually on November 20. First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children.
This day is observed to promote the objectives outlined in the Charter for the Welfare of Children. On November 20, 1958 the United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. The United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1989.

Children's Day is not simply a day to celebrate children for who they are, but to bring awareness to children around the globe that have succumbed to violence in forms of abuse, exploitation and discrimination. Currently there are about 153 million children between the age of 5 and 14 who are forced into child labour. The International Labour Organization in 1999 adopted the Prohibition and Elimination of the worst forms of child labour including slavery, child prostitution and child pornography. Endorsed by global organisations and governments, Children’s Day aims to promote the wellbeing of children and to uplift their social rights. For many parents, it is an important date and they take initiative to celebrate Children's Day by giving gifts and spend the day with them to make them feel special.
In India, Children’s Day is celebrated on the November 14 th every year. As a tribute Children's Day is celebrated on the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru's birthday. The emphasis was the significance of giving love and affection to children, who are the bright future of India. The main purpose of this day is to encourage the welfare of children all over the country.

                               Bal Swachhta Mission
Under the guidance of Shri Narendra Modi the Centre has decided to celebrate Children’s Day with the theme of Bal Swachhta Mission. Steps will be taken to embrace school children in this campaign.
It is believed that children can play a vital role in achieving the Swachh Bharat Mission by the year 2019.
If we motivate children to keep themselves clean and their homes, schools, and surroundings then they will contribute towards improving sanitation and would become ambassadors of cleanliness in their homes and communities.
The Centre has suggested six themes for Bal Swachhta Mission. Clean schools and anganwadis, clean surroundings, clean self (personal hygiene/child health), clean food, clean drinking water, and clean toilets are the six main themes. Moreover, all the states are asked to focus on any one of these themes on each day of week. The programme will begin from November 14 th 2014 and will go on till November 19 th 2014.

In India the idea of celebrating Children’s Day was suggested by VK Krishna Menon .
Children’s Day is celebrated all over India to honour children. There are many functions, events and programmes organised in schools and other organisation. Many government departments, corporate institutions and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) announce various schemes and organise a variety of competitions and events for the children. The day is celebrated with a range of innovative and fun filled activities at schools that seems much as a festival. For children, this is a day of joy, freedom and to engage in fun.
In the year 2000 world leaders outlined the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which includes providing universal primary education to all by the target date of 2015. Though the goals are for all humankind, they are primarily about children. UNICEF notes that six of the eight goals relate directly to children and meeting the last two will also make critical improvements in their lives.
The childhood is the great moments in the life of everybody which should be necessarily given a right track to become successful in the future as an asset of the country. Without the right track they may miss living a good life. This can be done only by giving a right education, care and way to progress.                                                               —Aniket Raja
