“Development is must, but it should not disturb the balance between the nature and the man. While formulating any policy for development, if this balance is neglected the reoccurrence of the tragedies like in Kedarnath may continue and we shall continue to pay homage to the victims,” said RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi, while speaking at a function organised in Delhi on June 17 to pay tribute to Kedarnath disaster victims. Former Union HRD Minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi was also present on the occasion.
Shri Joshi stressed the need to strengthen disaster management system in the country and said the recommendations of different committees should be implemented timely to minimise the loss during calamities.
He cited the example of Japan where disaster management is always given a top priority.
Applauding the role of the security forces during the rescue operation in Kedarnath he appealed to the society to ensure that no child affected by the disaster remains uncared for and the work of permanent rehabilitation should be done collectively.
Dr MM Joshi said Kedarnath was not only the natural but equally man-made disaster also. Therefore, blaming the nature only for the loss of lives and property is unjustified. He said the root causes have to be found otherwise more serious disasters are likely to strike in future. He said Bharat’s existence is totally dependent on the Himalayas as we owe the Himalayas for rivers (water), agriculture, weather, culture and heritage. If the Himalayas remains neglected, India will be either under cold wave or drought. It is the country’s responsibility to protect the Himalayas. A separate Himalayan Ministry or institution at central level be raised to look after the policy on Himalayan region. The Himalayan policy cannot be different for Kashmir, Uttarakhand, UP, WB, Sikkin & North-East. A separate defence regiment for Himalayan security should also be raised and proper infrastructure be developed accordingly.
Rajya Sabha MP from Uttarakhand Shri Tarun Vijay demanded a separate Himalayan habitat policy. He sought complete ban on plastics, gutaka, paan, tobacco, cigarette, cold drinks etc in the Himalayan region especially at the pilgrimage places. Lok Sabha MP Udit Raj was also present on the occasion.
Shri Ashwani Chaubey, MP from Bihar, moved a resolution demanding separate policy for pilgrimage of all religions. Restructuring of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in view of its total failure in Uttarakhand disaster management was also sought.                  —Pramod Kumar

National Kala Sadhak Sangam by Sanskar Bharati next year

Sanskar Bharati has decided to organise a grand cultural festival, Rashtriya Kala Sadhak Sangam in 2015 with 4,000 young artists. The decision to this effect was taken at the National Executive meeting orgnised in Chennai from May 31 to June 1. According to Sanskar Bharati organising secretary Shri Amirchand the young artists would be selected from across the country from different fields of the art. He said the date and venue of the event is yet to be decided but it will be organised in any big city only. He said the theme of the Sangam will be tyaga and sewa. He pointed out that the Sanskar Bharati has also decided to create some model centres of arts across the country.
The meeting was inaugurated by noted flute player Padmashri MN Ramani. Noted Marathi filmmaker and national president of Sanskar Bharati Shri Rajdutt presided over the meeting. A total of 75 delegates attended the two-day meet, which also witnessed Bharatnatyam performance by Urmila Satyanarayan and lecture by Dr Rajkumar Bharati, grandson of legendary poet Subramanian Bharati.                         —Bureau Report

Kalyan Ashram to fight for the rights of displaced Rohtasgarh Vanvasis

A total of 207 families of Chero Vanvasi community in Rohtas district of Bihar have no roof in these hot days. Displaced by Government of Bihar due to implementation of Durgawati River Dam Project they are still waiting for the rehabilitation package. They were assured of housing and other rehabilitation facilities by the government. But despite more than five years nothing has been done. About 65 families of Badalgarh were provided houses under Indira Awas, but only without windows, doors and even roofs. Two handpumps were provided to the villagers, which can fulfill only drinking water, but what about the animals and other needs.
Kalyan Ashram national vice president Shri Kripa Prasad and Kshetra organising secretary Shri Mahrang Oraon met these families on June 8 and assured them to fight for their rights. They also assured them help from the Kalyan Ashram in the form of utensils, mats and daily need materials. It was also assured to take their complaints to the Governor, Government of Bihar and the President of India.             —Bureau Report

Sangh Shiksha Varga in Delhi concludes

First year Sangh Shiksha Varga of Delhi concluded on June 15. A total of 207 Shiksharthis from six Prants underwent training at the Varga, which began on May 25.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony retired Supreme Court Justice Shri Pramod Kohli said there are so many organisations in the county but the RSS seems to be the only organisation which inculcates the spirit of patriotism among the people. He stressed the quality of swayamsevaks should be imbibed by all to live a meaningful life. He said today television is creating so many troubles in the society, which needs to be arrested forthwith.
Akhil Bharatiya Sharirik Shikshan Pramukh Shri Anil Oak said only change in the government does not bring in the desired change. People need to begin from themselves only then the nation makes progress. He said whatsoever progress we make but we should not forget accumulating strength. Delhi Prant Sanghachalak Shri Kulbhushan Ahuja, Sah Prant Sanghachalak Dr SS Agrawal, Valmiki Sant Shri Tarachandji were also present on the occasion.              —Bureau Report

ABVP protest against FYUP continues

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and DUSU held a protest march at the Arts Faculty and at the enterance leading to Vice Chancellor’s office in Delhi University. More than a hundred students raised slogans against the VC and his pilot project Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). They demanded immediate scrapping of the FYUP from this session itself. ABVP national secretary Shreehari Borikar addressed the protesting students. He said the university belongs to the students but the VC has completely undermined democracy by implementing the FYUP in the most undemocratic way. The FYUP, he said, should be rolled back immediately and the functioning of the university should be transparent. ABVP Delhi State secretary Saket Bahuguna said the UGC has asked Delhi University to review FYUP. This is a slap on the face of DU Administration, which has been using all tricks to save FYUP. The VC should immediately resign on moral grounds, he added.              —Bureau Report
