Dr Avinash Acharya, founder of the Jalgaon Janata Bank and Keshav Smruti Pratishthan which has 21 social projects running in and around Jalgaon District of Maharashtra is no more. He was also the
National President of Sahakar Bharati, a conglomeration of all cooperative sector units in India. People from different walks of life joined the RSS workers and associates of the Keshav
Smruti Pratishthan to pay tribute to the beloved Dada on April 1, 2014. He passed away on March 25, 2014 at the age of 82.
Dr Avinash Acharya got associated with RSS at an early age. After completing his education at Bangalore Medical College, he practiced with Dr Purnapatre in Pune city for some years and decided to serve the poor and deprived people by working with the Jalgaon Municipal Corporation. Being a competent medico together with his commitment and dedication, soon he became very popular doctor in the society. He had to face 18 months imprisonment for leading the anti-Emergency struggle (1975-77) in North Maharashtra. This completely transformed his social point of view and thereafter he continued his life through constructive projects for the society. Immediately after the Emergency, he laid the foundation of Jalgaon Janata Sahakari Bank in 1979. Due to his endless efforts for the growth and prosperity of the bank, the JJS Bank has won many accolades and has been growing strong and sound. He further established a series of projects in and around Jalgaon City. To name a few, a school for deaf and dumb Zunka Bhakar Kendra a food centre to serve the poor at reasonable price in Maharashtra, an old age care home, blood bank, eye bank and schools and colleges under the banner of Vivekanand Pratishthan are some of the flagship projects.
While paying homage to the departed soul Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi, Sarkaryavah of the RSS, said that though he was not an expert in the field like banking but he acquired the necessary knowledge while keeping the instincts of a swayamsevak intact, which gave him a clear vision. “Let us love the society like mother” was his mission and he reflected the same through action. His demise is a big loss to his teammates and followers.
