(Organiser, 10.11.2013) It is only in India that we will find a minister who is incharge of Internal Security, having a gala time at a music programme, when there was a series of bomb blasts /terror attack in the country, which claimed six lives and injured more than eighty-five people. How irresponsible and insensitive can a minister be? In 2008, it was the Congress Party’s Shivraj Patil who behaved this way and now in 2013 it is Shinde of the same Party who is indulging in dereliction of duty. As usual, the corrupt, inept and unethical Congress Party’s ministers are brazenly justifying his participation in the music function. It appears that the evil ‘hand’ is there behind these bomb blasts. As for the jealous Nitish Kumar, he ignored the Intel warnings given to his Government on October 1st and 23rd about the possible bomb attacks at the Hunkar Rally on 27th at Patna. The inefficiency of the Bihar Police can be gauged by the fact that all people were allowed to enter the Maidan without frisking as is done elsewhere. Moreover, Police did not screen the venue for bombs, despite a blast in a public toilet the previous night. Maybe Police personnel were also as indifferent as their political master. No bomb squads combed the Gandhi Maidan, the venue of the rally where more than five lakh people assembled. Neither were security checks conducted by the Bihar Police which is mandatory, especially when there were warnings of a security threat. Credit should be given to the Sangh Parivar for maintaining utmost discipline and preventing a stampede after the blasts. So now we have seen the “Bihar Model of Governance”! The Gaya blasts are still ‘being investigated’. And now the Patna blasts. Nitish Kumar was only playing cheap vote-bank politics and dreaming of becoming PM under a Third Front. Now let him bury that ambition and do justice to the people of Bihar by turning his attention to good governance. Vijayalakshmi G, Chennai
Mr Shinde, look beyond appeasement The letter of Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde to Chief Ministers of various states, asking them to ensure no wrongful detention of Muslims, hijacks the real issue of implementation and delivery of justice. All he seems to aim through his rhetoric is appeasement of the minority community. Our law enforcement agencies like police often horribly fail to differentiate the real culprit from the victim. The justice delivery system in India tends to help the cause of the perpetrators of the crime rather than helping the victim. Our Home Minister should ensure that every citizen should be treated with equal dignity and respect and no person is denied justice irrespective of his caste, community or religion—rather than just appeasing the Muslims.

A tribute to RSS from Australia Vijaya-dashmi marks the victory of good over evil. It was on this day that the RSS was founded in 1925. RSS is a great patriotic organisation committed to the unification of the Hindus. I have great love and affection for the RSS. When we came to Australia my husband wrote a letter to RSS with only this address on the envelope—RSS Nagpur, India. To our surprise we got a reply from the office of the RSS at Sanskriti Bhavan Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, Jhandewalan, New Delhi. The hand written reply was in Hindi. The reply was very polite and something like this Bhai aur Behn ko Ram Ram, Namaskar. The letter was a sort of blessings to us. We were very much impressed by the contents of the letter. I am very happy that the Hindu Sammelan at Banswara began with the garlanding of the picture of Guru Gobind Singhji

Make gobar-gas a commercial commodity This refers to the news statement of Union Minister for Petroleum Veerappa Moily that Government of India is exploring all means to make itself sufficient in oil and natural gases. This is a commendable accomplishment that the government is heading. This will save imports of petroleum products, thus saving foreign exchange and overcome the deficit of our country’s economy in a big way. However we wish to ask the honourable Union Minister that why is it that ‘Gobar-Gas’ is not made a commercial commodity, accordingly Government should promote and develop it? This will join hands with the indigenously produced petroleum products and make the utilisation of the fuel a total import free.

Gross injustice The Karnataka government has announced Rs 50K to Muslim girls at their marriages, provided the family income is less than Rs 1.5 lakh annually. This move poses a few questions such as (i) on what basis this income is worked out as a cut-off (ii) how would it be confirmed that a family actually falls within this limit (iii) why are other minority communities being excluded from the scheme (v) why can’t the scheme be extended to every Indian who has an income less than Rs 1.5 lakh (iv) the Congress has always claimed to be secularist party and champion of the downtrodden throughout the country. Ground realities show it practices just the contrary.

Emotional blackmail “My mother cried because she could not vote for the Food Security Bill” said the scion and future PM Rahul Gandhi, while seeking votes for the party which has been ruling for 66 years, of course with a hiccup for a few years. Seeing and undergoing high living costs, poor public services and the greed and corruption of politicians, Bharatvasis eyes have long back dried up. No amount of crying by mother and son will fill the stomachs of millions of Bharatvasis. On paper the Food Security Bill is an easy solution. Try to implement it. Do you think you can feed every man, woman and child in Bharat? An internationally known economist and a planning expert joined together and miserably failed, while the latter came out with a brilliant idea of thirty two rupees to appease the hunger of the poor. Passing a law will not end the hunger of the millions. How can a Bill reach the eight hundred million of Bharat’s 1.2 billion people. Remember Mr Rahul Gandhi there is many a slip between the cup and lip likewise the Bill and the belly.
