PIL in Allahabad High Court questioning the role of SP Government in  over  100 riots

The SP government of Uttar Pradesh is getting repeated slaps from judiciary. After the Lucknow Bench of High Court sought a reply on the PIL filed by social activist Nutan Thakur asking for a CBI probe into the Muzaffarnagar and all other riots reported under the SP regime, the Supreme Court on September 19 has decided to monitor both the probe and rehabilitation of the riot victims. The SC also transferred to itself all the petitions on the issue before the Allahabad High Court.

Lucknow based social activist Nutan Thakur, in a petition filed on September 11, sought direction for a CBI inquiry into all major communal riots that have taken place in UP since March 15. She also requested that the ambit of the Justice Sahay Commission, which has been entrusted the responsibility to probe the Muzaffarnagar violence, be expanded to all major riots after State Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav came to power. The petitioner alleged that there had been ineffective action by the State and its officials in the various communal riots in Mathura, Pratapgarh, Bareilly, Lucknow, Allahabad, Ghaziabad, Faizabad, Azamgarh Meerut and Amethi. The petition calls for an effective and unbiased CBI probe in each of these cases.            (Dr Shakti Kumar Pandey)
