ABRSM dharna at Jantar Mantar
Teachers from all over the country staged a dharna in New Delhi on April 25 under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM). A delegation later presented a 15-point demand charter from primary to university teachers to Prime Minister. BJP chief spokesperson Shri Prakash Javadekar and MP Shri Shripad Naik also joined the dharna supporting the demands of the teachers. Many other prominent leaders and academicians also addressed the gathering. Delegates from 22 states attended the dharna. Addressing the teachers Shri Jawadekar said the UPA government has pushed the education sector into a very bad shape. He said the contract system in teaching is killing the entire sector and it has adversely affect the standard of education being imparted. He said paying less to the contract teacher is also a crime and is against humanity. He said it is because the anti-teachers policies of the government about one lakh schools of the country are at the verge of closure. Lok Sabha MP Shri Arjun Meghwan, BJP MP Shri JP Nadha, Shripad Naik, Shri Hansraj Ahir and Shri Avinash Rai Khanna also addressed the gathering and supported the demands of the teachers. ABRSM national president Dr Vimal Prasad Agrawal expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of education in the country. General secretary Prof Jagdish Prasad Singh elaborated the demands mentioned in the memorandum.
