A boon to cow protection activists

A learned Judge of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court gave a verdict that goes a long way in encouraging activists of cow protection. The Judge remarked, among other things, “cows impounded should not be returned to butchers or traders; the truck should be impounded and the Licence of the truck drivers to be revoked.”  It was case where an NGO in suburb of Chennai saved, a large number of cattle which were being transported to Kerala for slaughter. It so happened that the policemen on the spot did not know under what section the transporters and traders of the cattle should be dealt with. Sangh swayamsevaks provided quick legal assistance and the illegal traders were booked under proper sections. It came to the notice of all concerned that it is a multi-State scandal. The cattles were procured from Orissa. Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are the usual route for the illegal trade that takes the hapless animals to Kerala for slaughter.
