A delegation of Rashtra Sevika Samiti comprising of former Samiti Chief is Pramila Tai Medhe, Smt. Asha Sharma, joint secretary, Smt. Radha Mehta, Delhi Prant Karyavahika, Smt. Jyotika Kalra and Dr Vijay Aggarwal, office bearers, along with Leader of Opposition Smt. Sushma Swaraj met President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on January 16. The delegation urged the President to direct the government to take concrete steps for safety and security of women in the country.
The President assured that his office would see to it that the administration is allowed to work fearlessly. He also referred to certain proposed amendments in Evidence Act so that the victim of sexual assault is not re-victimised during cross examination. The President appreciated the suggestions of the Samiti, particularly the idea of introducing moral education right at the primary level of education. Apart from safety and security of women, the Rashtra Sevika Samiti also drew the attention of the President to the depleted condition of Bhagini Nivedita smadhi in West Bengal and stressed the need for its renovation.
