The 13th national conference of Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad began at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Training University in Bhubaneshwar on December 26. Over 2000 delegates from different parts of the country attended the conference. Supreme Court judge Shri AK Patnaik inaugurated the conference as chief guest.
The theme topic for the conference was “Vitalising Constitutional and Democratic Institutions” keeping in mind that in the recent times it has been seen that the constitutional and democratic institutions are being emasculated and marginalised all over the country.
In his speech Justice Shri AK Patanik focused on various aspects of the judicial and constitutional reforms to vitalise the constitutional and democratic institutions. He said the advocates should not commercialise the legal profession because this disturbs the routine of the court. “Behaviour can only be controlled by dharma.
The ABAP can inculcate the value of dharma in the lawyers and help to halt the march of commercialisation of law,” he said. He stressed the need that the investigation machinery should be separated from the law enforcement machinery to ensure better criminal judicial system.
Shri MN Krishnamani, senior advocate and president of Supreme Court Bar Association stressed that the appointment of judges should be made transparent in the higher judiciary and a national judicial commission should be established to ensure fairness in the judiciary. (FOC)
