A General of high reputation
Why this unnecessary spat on his DoB ?
Who is UPA fooling
By Sanjeev Sirohi
Let me at the outset make it crystal clear that I hold no brief for Gen VK Singh who is our Army Chief but at the same time let also make it very clear that as a citizen of India and as a lawyer, I am at a complete loss to understand that why has our government chosen to act so contemptuously against Gen VK Singh who enjoys the highest credibility in the eyes of common man especially after he chose to blow the whistle against all corrupt people in Sukna land scam including some generals who are facing either court martial or some other disciplinary action. It is most despicable and obnoxious to see that a serving Army Chief of the eminence of Gen VK Singh who throughout his illustrious career has an impeccable, distinguished service record and is reputed as a man of very strong principles has been publicly snubbed so badly by our government that is beyond comprehension and is unprecedented. I am sorry to say that it is not just Gen VK Singh alone, but the august office of Army Chief which has been dragged by hairs in such a needless controversy which is unprecedented by all measures . Never before in independent India has a serving Army Chief been embroiled in such an unsavoury controversy involving Gen VK Singh’s personal integrity which is most unfortunate. Needless to say, all this has further damaged government’s image ineyes of people already reeling under Anna’s tsunami which elicited massive response all over.
What an unbeatable irony that while our government has just no compunction in granting repeated extensions to head-nodding civil servants but stick its neck out in denying. Army Chief Gen VK Singh known for his uprightness and high moral fibre even his normal tenure and that too on such grounds never heard before. Even if one eminent jurist in not only India but anywhere in world not affiliated with government in anyway says that, Age as recorded in Matriculation Certificate which is universally accepted as the biggest authentic age proof of any individual as held by Supreme Court in many cases is useless, age as recorded in the Military Hospital at Pune where born is useless, age as recorded in Gen VK Singh father’s official records who was a Lieutenant Colonel in Army is useless, age as recorded in all school certificates where Gen VK Singh studied are useless, age as confirmed by police on police verification is useless , age as recorded in both Identity Cards issued by Indian Military Academy, Dehradun from where Gen VK Singh passed out to become officer is useless, age as recorded even later by concerned Army authorities is useless, age as recorded in Gen VK Singh’s official records where serving is useless, age as recorded by Adjutant General (AG) Branch officially responsible for handling all Army records pertaining to age and other legal matters is useless, age as recorded by ‘Six Promotion Boards ‘in Army of Gen VK Singh’s to reach the rank of Lieutenant General is useless , age as recorded by Military Secretary (MS) Branch in ‘Six Promotion Boards’ by MS Branch itself which ignited this whole needless controversy is useless, age as recorded in Voters Card is useless , age as recorded in PAN Card is useless, age as recorded in driving licence is useless, age as recorded in Passport is useless, age of Gen VK Singh as confirmed to be May 10, 1951 after a thorough study of the entire case by three former Chief Justices of India including Justice JS Verma reputed for their integrity and uprightness is useless, age as confirmed by Law Ministry initially after confirming from various sources is useless and only age as erroneously filled by a teacher BS Bhatnagar hurriedly when Gen VK Singh was a minor in the UPSC application form for NDA which he later candidly admitted also and again on this very absurd basis was either foolishly or maliciously entered by MS Branch in its records without consulting AG Branch and now again on this very grave error of MS Branch, the Defence Ministry coming to the same inane conclusion be considered as final word on all such matters be considered the sole relevant criteria in deciding Gen VK Singh’s case as the government has done now, I will relent on it. But I am certain such an absurd possibility will never arise, not even in my dreams. Atleast now our government must admit its grave folly in this entire unfortunate episode and take the requisite corrective measures even though, of late. As the saying goes : “ It is better to be late than never .”?
