THIS is a practical self-help book meant for those who are ambitious and restless to achieve their cherished goals. It provides 14 easy steps or principles to climb the ladder of success. These principles for achieving success are “the distilled essence of my years of research and understanding of the dynamics of success,” says the author-cum-eye specialist, who happens to be an advocate of positive thinking and self-motivation. This book is meant to help people become ‘I-specialists’ and derive their strength, motivation and become self-sufficient once they are able to relate to the book.
The author believes that each of us has an immense storehouse of strength within that has hitherto remained undiscovered; the energy that we never dreamt of possessing; talent that we never realised and the potential we never tapped to the full. So what is required to succeed is to explore the ‘gold mine’ lying dormant within us and learn that for realising it, what are the means required to achieve success and happiness in life by whatever parameters we set.
The author believes that our thoughts guide our action and a single positive thought initiates an interminable chain reaction. Positive thinking is the fountainhead of happy living. If we take care of our thinking, our attitude can be made to change which in turn transforms our outlook towards life. By being optimistic, we not only help ourselves but also motivate the people around us to become optimistic.
She begins by dividing people under three categories – the loser, the mediocre and the winner. So, first of all, you have to identify and check by categorising yourself and your personality to put yourself under any one category. After making an honest self-assessment, you have to ask yourself what success means to you and then define your goals. Such goals should be set so as to interest and inspire you. When you have a goal close to your heart, the motivation to pursue it flows in spontaneously.
The next step is to devise the action plan as it will serve as the road map to success. The action plan should be such as to be effective in fulfilling your objective; it should be transparent and open ended to changes. Next step is self-belief – the belief that you can achieve your goal by overcoming all the mental barriers that hold you back from achieving your goals. For this the basic requirement is motivation to succeed. It acts as the “driving force that fuels the fire of ambition inside you and takes you towards your goal.” Now the process of re-discovery begins and once you know what you are and what you want, you try to build yourself up accordingly.
