HUNDREDS of ABVP activists staged a demonstration outside Ashoka Hotel, the venue of Education Ministers conference in New Delhi on June 19, to register their protest against the wrong education policy of the UPA government. Carrying placards, flags and banners they shouted slogans against the UPA government. The demonstrators were led by ABVP general secretary Shri Vishnudutt Sharma.

The objective of the demonstration was to seek enactment of a central law to stop commercialisation of education, banning self-funded syllabus in Government colleges and universities, bringing all types of vocational education under the NCHER Bill and enactment of an effective law to check the structure of foreign universities in the country, etc.

The protesting ABVP activists had a clash with police and they were taken to Chanakya Puri police station. They were released after some time. Later, a delegation presented a memorandum to Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal.

The National Executive of ABVP that met in Dehradun recently had decided to start countrywide protest against the wrong decisions taken by the UPA government in education sector. In this series of protest, the Education Ministers of all the states were presented memorandums on June 18 and dharnas were staged in all State capitals on June 18. The demonstration organised in New Delhi on June 19 was part of that series of protest.
