SHIKSHA Sanskriti Utthan Nyas organised a workshop in New Delhi on increasing tendency of suicide among students on March 13. Speaking at the workshop Dr SK Garg, president of Delhi University Principals’ Association, emphasised that the existing education system does not care for life skills and attitude but only high percentage of marks. Sometimes actually brilliant students refrain to score and average students get high percentage. It is also a fact that many parents expect more from their average child and try to fulfill their dreams through their children. Such pressure sometime puzzles the students.
Shri Vijendra Gupta, prominent social reformist, narrated his experiences in this regard. The parents expect more than the capacity of their child and push them to so-called English medium school. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam always mentioned that he became scientist only when he studied in his own mother tongue.
Smt Monika Arora, advocate of Delhi High Court, appealed to the parents not to expect more from their child. The workshop was organised under the guidance of Shri Dina Nath Batra convener of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti and Shri Atul Kothari. Shri Narenderjeet Singh Rawal, secretary of Vidya Bharati also spoke on the occasion.
