THIS book by Makkhan Lal, NS Rajaram, HS Sreenath sheds new light on the following topics: Indology and the White Man’s Burden, The Rocky Road to Partition, Revisiting the Partition and Secularism and Casteism. Divergent as the topics are, a common theme unites them: Indologists left the country divided racially (Aryans-Dravidians), Partition divided the country physically (India-Pakistan), and Secularism, as practiced in India, has left the country divided along religious lines, while Casteism has fragmented it.
In addition to exploring these momentous topics the authors show that the assumptions and conclusions of Jaswant Singh in his recent book on the Partition are based on misconceptions and misreading of history. The book highlights also the little known practice of Al Taqiya, which is to Islamic diplomacy what jihad is to Islamic warfare.
The book also explodes the myth that Jinnah was a secular person by showing that he was a devout, practicing Muslim of an obscure Shia sect that did not adhere to orthodox rules and practices.
