Congress-led UPA government’s ‘Quiet diplomacy’ in Kashmir has raised many eye brows in the state. The nationalist forces, particularly BJP has described the move as favour only separatist groups and those who have been advocating controversial self-rule and greater autonomy proposals.
BJP has started awareness campaign against Centre’s ‘Quiet diplomacy’ on Kashmir issue. In the first public awareness campaign against quiet diplomacy, the Deputy leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, S S Ahluwalia, said that Centre should make it clear that with whom it wants to talk in Kashmir.
Questioning the rationale behind starting the quiet dialogue with the separatists to solve the vexed Kashmir problem, the BJP asked the Centre to make the whole process public.
“There are apprehensions among people that the quiet diplomacy is favouring only separatist groups and those who have been advocating controversial self-rule and greater autonomy proposals, which need to be clarified,”
The opposition leader impressed upon the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to open the cards of ‘Quiet diplomacy’ which he said have been befooling the whole nation and apprehensions aired by different sections of the society could be removed.
Kicking off a campaign to make public aware of the ramifications of the quiet dialogue, Ahluwalia made it clear that his party was not against talks with different groups to restore lasting peace in this region.
“Talks should continue but the nation should not be kept in dark about mechanism adopted by the Centre to hold a dialogue with the separatist groups of Kashmir,” he said, demanding that the whole country should be informed about the proposals on which the Centre has initiated talks.
Cautioning the Centre against succumbing before the pressure of separatists and militant groups of the valley, Ahluwalia reminded that whenever the Congress regimes took such steps it had proved disastrous for the whole nation.
Mr Ahluwalia said “till they will not let it be known to all as to with whom they are going to hold talks and what is their ideology, we are of the considered opinion that fishy thing is taking place”.
Earlier addressing the function BJP Legislative Party leader, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said that policies of Congress led Government at the Centre have been the root cause of present mess in the state. “Despite winning all wars on ground, we lost while holding table negotiations”, he added.
Dr Chrungoo, chairman, Panun Kashmir (PK) said PK rejects all proposals for a settlement which are based on recognition of Jammu and Kashmir as a separate sphere of Muslim interests in India. Warning the Government of India, he said any further strengthening of exclusion process of J&K from the secular organisation of India by accepting greater autonomy, self-rule or Musharraf plan will open the way for total balkanisation of India.
He said any attempt to create a Muslim state on the territory of India will ultimately disrupt and destroy the unity and integrity of the country.
Terming it a dangerous trend he said no compromise on ideology will be allowed. Much to the dismay and distress of the patriotic people in the state, it appears that Central Government is leaning out in support of separatist forces, he added.
Dr Chrungoo said that for GoI, it seems peace and reconciliation, has assumed a meaning of only peace and reconciliation with Muslim communal separatism in the state and GoI appears to be blinded more and more with respect to the aspirations of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists living in the state which constitute over 45 per cent of its population.
HL Chatta, general secretary of the organisation said that this process will have serious repercussions and harm the interests of people of Jammu region, PoK and West Pak refugees, internally displaced Pandits, Sikhs and Gujjars and Bakerwals in the State.
