The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision; you can’t blow an uncertain trumpet. And this was witnessed at the India Today Chief Ministers’ Conference in New Delhi, where Senior Congress leader and Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the chief guest, presented an award to Karnataka’s Chief Minister Shri BS Yeddyurappa for making Karnataka the number one State of the country in maintaining the law and order. Of course the dynamic Chief Minister of Karnataka deserves showering of encomiums as he religiously followed the mantra that the best administrator is the one who has senses enough to pick good men to do what he wants to be done, and self-restraint to keep away from meddling with them while they do it. Although it was not an easy task for him, as he faced non-stop frenziedly pseudo-secular comments from the so-called secular media-both print and electronic-and of course from the spokesmen of Pranabda’s party. Some selected political analysts of electronic media also commented that Shri Yeddyurappa is a right man in a wrong party, after trying many times to blame the Chief Minister on various incidences of ‘communal violence’, as he belongs to a ‘saffron party’. But a leader is a dealer in expectations and master in fulfilling them-and that is what Yeddyurappa is, who has put the State on the track of not only development but also maintaining best law and order in the country. After receiving the award, Shri Yeddyurappa told the media candidly that he is happy that someone has lauded his government’s endeavours in running a state, which does not make any discrimination between the majority and minorities, whether it is the issue concerning law and order, development, education, unemployment or any other issue in the state. So in the matter of leadership, it is worth mentioning that Shri BS Yeddyurappa is class apart, who tells his subordinates how to do and what to do things and let the people surprise with their results.
