National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) completed 44 years on February 5. It was formed in 1965 in Nagpur. Before the formation of the NOBW, the Bank employees were largely united under the banner of AIBEA. After Chinese aggression in 1962, the nationalist Bank employees strongly opposed the term Mukti Sena and in the AIBEA conference held immediately after China aggression in Calcutta, they moved a resolution against the China aggression, but the communist backed forces opposed it and supported the China aggression stating that communist countries never attack on others but only send their Mukti Sena.

After that incident the nationalist employees formed the NOBW. Shri BG Gaur from Reserve Bank of India was elected first general secretary. After the formation, a number of bank unions and state federations affiliated to it. It resolved to affiliate with the BMS at Ajmer Conference on May 2, 1969. NOBW always raised the voice in the interest of bank employees. Today, it is a recognised force in the banking sector and one of the constituents of United Forum of Bank Unions.
