The National Executive of Akhil Bharatiya Sahakar Bharati that met in Surat from December 13 to 14, demanded complete autonomy for cooperative sector. ?The interference of the government must be stopped in cooperative sector, which needs practical autonomy rather than paper autonomy. To ensure it there is a need to amend the existing laws and the government and other agencies should take effective steps in this regard,? said a resolution adopted at the meeting. Sahakar Bharati also stressed the need to include experts and experienced officials in the amendment committee. The resolution pointed out that despite amendments in the state laws the interference of government machinery continues in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh.

Sahakar Bharati appealed to the cooperative agencies to extend maximum benefit to the general public and the government officials also should act as sevak of the public and not as the controller. The national executive also stressed the need to ensure maximum involvement of women in the cooperative sector.
