Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Somnath Chatterjee has lauded the water conservation initiatives undertaken by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. He said the whole nation should adopt the initiatives of Shri Modi on this front. He was addressing the Gujarat legislatures assembled in the Sansadiya Gyan Shivir held at Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar Education and Research Bureau in Gandhinagar on March 3. Assembly speaker Shri Ashok Bhatt and Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi were also present on the occasion.

Shri Chatterjee further said that Gujarat has produced great leaders like Gandhiji and Sardar Patel. The state has made remarkable progress during the years. Gujarat can take pride for its breakthrough in white revolution, cooperative sector and industrial progress, he added. He complimented the Members of the Assembly for the glorious achievements of Gujarat. He asked the Members to inculcate values like high moral character, hard work, knowledge, probity and brevity.

?Dissatisfaction is the unavoidable expression of democratic system. The majority should honour the ideas of the minority and the minority should accept the decisions of the majority. It is the foundation of the democracy. The misconduct of the Members spoils precious time of the House and tarnishes its public image,? he said further adding that an MLA should be a good listener. He should understand the perception of the other Members. Never forget that alternative, attitude, leaders, policies and principles are always there. The opposition party may be a ruling party in future. He reiterated the need to respect different people, thoughts and religions.

Shri Narendra Modi speaking on the occasion remarked that to won the heart of the citizens, Members of the House have to rise above political differences. To carry out the public obligation the Members ought to convict themselves for people'swelfare. He urged the Members to get united and committed for the cause of water conservation. He praised the ideal united stand taken by all the Members over the Narmada issue. ?The media driven politics and highlighting the negativity has become a tradition. The good things happening in the House goes unnoticed. By positive practices the Member can create an influence. In the 21st century, the elected Members can evolve consensus for the development of Gujarat. The interest of the state would be at the core of the heart,? he added.

By indiscriminate utilisation of ground water, the land has become barren, it is our moral obligation to make it fertile and water enriched again by the water harvesting movements. Shri Modi appealed to all the Members to extend heartfelt contribution in the water conservation drives, as they had taken the united stand over the Narmada issue.

Shri Ashok Bhatt said the camp is really a historic event. He recounted the glorious contribution of Shri Viththalbhai Patel and Dada Mavalankar to the Parliamentary systems. The former Speaker of the assembly Shri Mangaldas Patel expressed gratitude on the occasion.
