Thousands of workers of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti staged a massive demonstration at Delhi Assembly on September 18 to protest against the Delhi Government'smove to introduce sex education in schools. The protestors demanded the government to stop it forthwith as has been done in some other states. Addressing the demonstrators, Shri Dina Nath Batra, secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, a unit of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, said the Delhi Government has introduced sex education in Delhi in the name of Adolescence Education and it aims to teach graphically the use of condoms to the students between the ages of 12-18 years, which would only encourage them to experiment with sex at an early age. He said the teaching material is full of explicit images of naked boys and girls in different stages of growth and the class activities shown in the book require students to touch each others? body parts including private parts. He pointed out that because of such objectionable features, ten states have already banned this syllabus, which has prepared and promoted by UNICEF, UNFPA and WHO. He also pointed that it is against the law to impart sex education to children between the ages of 4-18 years. Shri Batra further said the West which is suffering from the awful consequences of sex education at school-level, has started propagating the Indian concept of ?wait till you marry?. ?Why don'twe learn from the mistakes of the West, instead of foolishly aping them,? he added. He said despite huge outcry against the move, the Delhi government is going ahead with the implementation of the dangerous syllabus and teachers are already been trained for this purpose. The recent such training session was held at various government schools in Delhi in August this year. Addressing the demonstrators, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Delhi BJP president, who also raised the issue of sex education in Delhi Assembly on September14 under rule 280, said the syllabus prepared for sex education would further increase the crimes and it crosses all limits of morality. He appealed to Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit to stop it forthwith. Shri Atul Kothari, co-convener of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, said the NCERT has already declared that this would create a problem not only for the country but also for the whole world. Shri R.C. Jain, president of Delhi Public School Association, described it the childish act of the government. He said it would spoil the young generation. Shri Sahib Singh Chauhan, MLA, said they would not allow the government to spoil the young generation and would oppose it till their last breath. (FOC)
