“Dr Sahib Singh Verma was farmers? face of Indian politics. He was voice of the poor. He was not only a political leader, but also a social reformer. He was always concerned about villages, poor people, farmers and labourers. He was strongly in favour of framing a law for the workers of unorganised sector,? said BJP president Shri Rajnath Singh, while paying an emotional tribute to the late national vice president of BJP Dr Sahib Singh Verma in New Delhi on July 11. Dr Verma had passed away in a road accident in Rajasthan on June 30.

The influence of Sahib Singh Verma among people of Delhi was evident from the crowd turned to Talkatora Stadium which was not only packed to its capacity but more people were outside the stadium than inside. People from different camps of politics disregarding the limitations of politics and society gathered and paid tribute to Dr Verma. The condolence meeting was organised by Delhi unit of BJP.

Senior BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi said the life of the person who lives for the progress of community, society and country is worth praising. Dr Verma lived such a life and fought for the cause of the workers of unorganised sector. Passing such a law would be the real tribute to him, he said. Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra said a grand memorial should be constructed in Delhi in the memory of Dr Verma. Smt Sushma Swaraj said Shri Verma was so concerned about the labourers that he wanted to raise the case of framing a law for the workers of organised sector in this monsoon session through the BJP.

Haryana Chief Minister Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Dr Verma never allowed politics to come in the way of social relations. Shri Omprakash Chautala, former Chief Minister of Haryana, said the vacuum created by the death of Dr Verma is difficult to be filled. Shri Charanjit Singh Atwal, Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, said despite being a Chief Minister and Union Labour Minister Dr Verma never left his simplicity and contacted with ordinary people. Shri Mahendra Singh Tikait, leading farmer leader of Western Uttar Pradesh, appealed to the people to become like Sahib Singh Verma. Janata Dal president Shri Sharad Yadav said Dr Verma did wonderful work in his life. Former External Affairs Minister Shri Natwar Singh stressed the need for completing the unfinished tasks of Dr Verma. Former Chief Minister of Delhi Shri Madanlal Khurana said nobody had imagined that Sahib Singhji would leave us so soon and like this. Delhi Prant Sanghachalak Shri Ramesh Prakash described Verma as an ideal swayamsevak. Punjab Chief Minister Shri Prakash Singh Badal said his death has created a big vacuum.

Delhi BJP president Dr Harsh Vardhan said Dr Verma was a true sympathiser of the poor. He was such a Chief Minister of Delhi who personally argued the case in the court for the protection of interests of lakhs of residents of unauthorised colonies and provided them basic amenities. He framed Master Plan for the villages of Delhi. Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said Dr Verma'smobility was wonderful. He was always in forefront during the calamities in any part of the country. (FOC)
