In a world where women are not allowed to drive, being an entrepreneur is a big thing. That'show Sheikha Lubna al-Qasimi feels, the first ever finance minister in the Arab world, in the United Arab Emirates. Despite public restrictions on women, it is estimated that 40 per cent of the wealth in Saudi Arabia is in women'shands. ?Even Prophet Muhammad married a businesswoman,? says al-Qasimi. There are many who believe that the Arab countries are finally yielding place to women, especially in areas like business, which was unthinkable a few years ago. A woman was elected to head the chamber of commerce in Saudi Arabia last December. Some 300 Arab women entrepreneurs had a dinner get together at the official residence of the lord mayor of London to foster links with the Britain'scommercial world. The British Prime Minister'swife was among the audience.
