ABVP's51st national convention in Bhopal

?An awakened nation remains united and the united nation makes progress. We all have to unitedly take the message of social harmony to the masses. This will happen only when the pain and sorrow of the last person of the society living in the remotest area of the country becomes our own pain and sorrow,? said Shri Mohan Bhagwat, Sarkaryavah of RSS. He was inaugurating the four-day 51st national convention of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Bhopal recently. A total of 889 delegates from 350 districts of the country participated in the convention that began on November 19.

Shri Bhagwat said the building of a prosperous, happy, beautiful and healthy India was not the responsibility of the ABVP activists alone, but the every section of the society had to contribute in this yajna. He further said the centuries-old Indian thinking had always been found new as per the changing time and needs of the society. Talking about the challenges the nations is facing today, he said it indicated the nation had not still awakened. ?We have to awaken the country. This is the time-tested fact that no power can stand before an awakened nation. Although, there are a number of challenges before us, we have faced all such challenges bravely during all the phases of time,? he said calling upon the youth to move ahead with confidence.

Earlier, the newly elected ABVP president, Dr Kailash Sharma, while highlighting the 58 years journey of the largest students organisation of the country said the ABVP had been discharging the duties in education sector that should have been discharged by the educationists. He said the organisation had not been formed to gain temporary benefits nor does it work with the feeling of a trade union. A detailed discussion was held on three important topics?ABVP: Organisation with a Difference; ABVP: Ideological Perspective, and Today'sCampus and Our Work. The convention also adopted several resolutions including those on elections of student unions and political corruption in the country. The convention has decided to launch an extensive campaign against Bangladeshi infiltrators and WTO in the country.

This year'sDr Yashwantrao Kelkar Yuva Puraskar was jointly presented to Shri Anand A.S and Shri Arun Kumar V.K. of Karnataka. The award was given for their outstanding invention of a swadeshi model for agriculture. The award consists of Rs 25000, a coconut, a memento and a citation.

Dr Kailash Sharma and Shri K.N. Raghunandan were re-elected as president and general secretary respectively for the year 2005-06. The new team of ABVP announced by Dr Sharma for the year 2005-06 includes Shri Ram Naresh Singh (Bihar), Dr Renu Mathur (Jhansi), Shri Milind Marathe (Mumbai), Dr P. Murli Manohar (Hyderabad) and Dr Nagesh Thakur (Shimla) as vice presidents. Shri Vishnudutt Sharma (Madhya Pradesh), Shri Dharmpal (Agra), Shriniwasji (Hyderabad), Shri Pravin Ghuge (Mumbai) and Ku. Mukta Sharma (Chennai) are the new secretaries. Shri Sunil Ambekar (Mumbai) is national organising secretary and Shri B. Surendran (Chennai) and Shri Atul Kothari (Delhi) are joint organising secretaries. Dr Vijay Vaidya (Mumbai) is treasurer and Shri Sham Aggarwal (Jaipur) is the joint treasurer.
