The lekh Bej family'sordeal continues in Orissa with the grief-stricken family finding little solace from the law. After the Bej family'sonly daughter Jyotir-mayee was brutally killed reportedly by proselytising zealot missionaries, ?all out effort has been made by the police to make the case weak,? according to Advocate Bighnaraj Mohapatra, who is fighting the case in the district court.
The advocate explains that two suspects in the case, Ranjan Naik and Raju Naik are in judicial custody. Article 302 of Indian Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc) for murder and Section 4 of Freedom of Religion Act of 1967 have been evoked against both the persons.
However, the police have left many loopholes in the legal net, clandestinely. The police knowingly have not corroborated the facts with the allegations made in the FIR, the advocate said.
However, the district administration, bowing to public pressure was forced to transfer the Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra, Inspector in Charge (IIC) of Dhenkanal police station for allegedly showing undue favours to brutal killers of Jyotirmayee. It may be noted that though locals had caught hold of Ranjan Naik on the fateful night Jyotirmayee was missing, suspecting Ranjan to be the man behind conspiring Jyotirmayee'skidnapping, the IIC had allowed Ranjan to go. However, on the next morning, Jyotirmayee'smutilated body was found on the railway crossing.
?Had the police official properly interrogated Ranjan, Jyotirmayee could have been saved,? alleged the deceased'sfather, Alekh Bej. Now DSP Mandardhar Nayak has been appointed as the investigating officer of the case. The family has little faith on the new investigating officer, said Shri Alekh Bej.
Alleges Bajrang Dal state convenor, Subash Chouhan, that the mandarins of Church are behind the culprits. ?Their terror tactics for conversion have to stop,? Shri Chouhan added.
