Veteran Sangh Pracharak and member of RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini, Shrikant Joshi said that the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya was a part of an international conspiracy and some political leaders of the country were playing in the hands of some foreign powers. Talking to mediapersons in Udaipur, he said there was no truth in the allegations levelled against the Kanchi seer. He said some foreign forces wanted to create distrust against Hindu religious leaders and mutts and mandirs. Giving grounds for his allegation Shri Joshi said that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa had withdrawn support to the NDA government in 1998 and the government fell by one vote. After that Jayalalithaa extended support to Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, but soon backtracked at the last moment, resulting in Smt. Gandhi not being able to form the government. After the fall of the NDA government, a Foundation of America honoured Smt. Jayalalithaa for her contribution to strengthen democracy in India. He said that after withdrawing support to the NDA government, the meaning of getting such award was obvious. One of the trustees of that foundation is a Christian Father who has been involved in conversion in India through missionaries, he said. Citing an American report, World Vision-2003, that points out that there are 23 countries in the world, which are non-Christian or non-Islamic, he said that the prime objective mentioned in the report was to convert India and China into Christian nations. He pointed out that about 40 per cent people in Japan were Christian. Similarly, in South Korea also, over 45 per cent people were Christians and the number of Christians was gradually increasing in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. The report says that the doors to Christianity had been opened in China, but conversion was becoming a difficult task in India. Shri Joshi alleged that Islamic and Communist forces were playing in the hands of foreign forces against the Hindus. He said that the Shankaracharya episode was a part of the efforts to increase the influence of Christianity in India.
