A number of students come to BHU from different parts of the world for further studies. There is a continuous flow of students from war-torn countries such as Iran, Iraq, Syria and several African nations. A few of these students face difficulty in adjustment with the climate, food and feel home-sickness. Dr Priyadarshini, Warden of International Girls Hostel says, “I try to make them understand the importance of Bharatiya philosophy and celebration of Bharatiya festivals. Last year, for the first time, we celebrated Holi with International Students where they enjoyed the Holi fire, gulal, guzia, thandai along with music and dance. It was a great moment for them as for the first time in their life they were celebrating a Bharatiya festival which was specially organised for them.” These students now celebrate Raksha-bandhan, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Deepavali and Saraswati Pooja.
