Special Intensive Revision Drive (SIR) Bihar: All You need to Know

The ongoing voter list revision drive ahead of Bihar assembly polls has sparked a major political row with opposition parties (INDIA bloc) raising concern over the drive

The NDA however has supported the intensive revision drive aimed at overhauling the voters list which is being done after a gap of over two decades.

The ECI has maintained the exercise is being conducted strictly in line with the provisions of Article 326 and the RP Act, 1950 and aims to remove ineligible entries while ensuring that no eligible voter is left out.

Enumeration Forms are being distributed to voters under the initial phase of the drive which are to be filled and submitted with attached documents verifying voter’s eligibility.

The ECI has clarified that nearly 60 per cent (4.96 out of 7.9) of the total voters whose name featured in the 2003 list need not to submit any documents, furthermore their children will also be considered eligible for voting after submission of any of the indicative documents.

The rest of the voters need to submit any of the indicative documents for verification, ranging from birth Certificates to passport, educational certificates, etc. to become eligible for voting.

The Commission has already appointed around 1 lakh BLOs along 4lakh volunteers including government employees to smoothen the process. Moreover, political parties have also appointed around 1.5 lakh BLAs to assist the voters during the revision exercise.

The commission aims to upload the draft roll by August 1, providing a one-month window to register objections, claims before uploading the final overhauled list of voters by September 30 this year.
