Opposition Leader or street goon? Rahul Gandhi warns Election Commissioners saying, ‘Will deal once our govt is formed’

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on August 18 warned the Election Commission (EC), saying that the three Election Commissioners would be “dealt with” once the INDIA bloc forms the government at the Centre and in Bihar. He made the remarks during his Vote Adhikar Yatra rally in Gaya Ji, escalating his confrontation with the poll body over allegations of “vote theft.”

His comments came a day after the EC directed him to submit a signed affidavit substantiating his allegations.

Addressing a large gathering, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the EC was acting under the influence of the Modi government.

“All three Election Commissioners, listen up. Right now, it is Narendra Modi’s government, and you are working for him. But a day will come when the INDIA alliance will form the government in the country and in Bihar, and then we will deal with all three of you. Action will be taken against you,” he declared.

Rahul further said the Election Commission itself had been caught in “vote theft” but was instead demanding an affidavit from him.

“The Election Commission’s theft has been caught, and now it is asking me for an affidavit. Give me some time, the entire country will demand an affidavit from you. We will expose your theft nationwide,” he remarked.

Calling vote theft an assault on democracy, he added: “When Narendra Modi and the Election Commission steal votes, they attack Mother India and the Constitution. Vote theft is an attack on the soul of Hindustan and on Bharat Mata. We will not let this happen.”

Alongside Rahul, JNU fame turned Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar also targeted the poll body, demanding that it first submit an affidavit in the Supreme Court affirming that its voter lists were error-free.

Kanhaiya added that the Congress would file its own affidavit highlighting irregularities if the EC submitted one defending the credibility of its voter rolls.

Significantly, Gandhi in a presser on August 7 had alleged the ECI for the manipulation of the electoral list. The Congress MP is also undertaking a yatra opposing the Special Intensive Revision [SIR] being conducted by the ECI ahead of the State Assembly polls in Bihar.

The ECI, on the other han,d on August 17 countered the allegations labelled by the LoP, urging him to either submit an affidavit regarding the allegations or apologise to the country. The poll body has maintained that the voter revision exercise in Bihar is being conducted to overhaul the electoral list, ensuring the inclusion of every eligible voter.
