The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is set for a revival as the Union Government has approved equity support of over Rs 10,000 crore. PM Narendra Modi announced the decision, highlighting its significance in building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
In a statement posted on X, PM Modi remarked, “The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has a special place in the hearts and minds of the people of Andhra Pradesh. During yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, it was decided to provide equity support of over ₹10,000 crore for the plant, understanding the importance of the steel sector in India’s self-reliance journey.”

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu took to X to hail the announcement, calling it a “historic moment etched in steel.” He expressed gratitude to the Union Government, stating:
“Today is an emotional and proud moment for Andhra Pradesh. The Vizag Steel Plant stands as a monument to the struggles and spirit of our people. This financial package is not just a commitment—it’s a dream come true for Andhra Pradesh. Good days ahead!”
Naidu also highlighted that this milestone was achieved due to the consistent efforts of the Andhra Pradesh government under the NDA coalition, securing a total revival package of Rs 11,440 crore. He added, “Thanks to PM @narendramodi Ji for approving the package. RINL will start full steel production with two blast furnaces in early 2025 and with three blast furnaces by August 2025.”
Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, also expressed gratitude to PM Modi for the announcement.
“Thanks to PM Narendra Modi Ji for approving a package of Rs 11,440 crore for the revival of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL). This decision underscores the government’s commitment to revitalizing the steel sector, which is pivotal for economic growth. With two blast furnaces set to begin full production in early 2025 and three operational by August 2025, the Vizag Steel Plant is poised to regain its former glory and boost India’s journey towards self-reliance,” he said.
Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, welcomed the central government’s decision to approve the revival package for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed his sentiments on X, stating, “This is not just a financial revival – but the fulfilment of a promise written in the sacrifices of 1966. The spirit of Visakhapatnam Steel lives on!”
Minister Kollu Ravindra echoed the sentiment, describing the allocation as a “testament to the performance of the coalition government.”
“Special thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the ₹10,300 crore revival package for Vizag Steel Plant, the jewel of Uttarandhra. With RINL gearing up for full-scale steel production, this move will undoubtedly usher in an era of growth and prosperity,” he said.
