As the first anniversary of the consecration of the Ram Lalla murti in Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir concluded, the holy city witnessed a grand three-day celebration from January 11 to 13, 2025. Over the past year, the mandir had not only emerged as a pilgrimage epicenter but had also etched its name into history with remarkable Guinness World Records and an unprecedented influx of devotees.
The Ram Mandir’s journey officially began on January 22, 2024, with an unforgettable inauguration ceremony led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event was steeped in spirituality and history, drawing over 500,000 devotees to witness the long-awaited Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla. The chants of “Jai Shri Ram” echoed across the mandir courtyard, uniting devotees from every corner of Bharat.
This moment was not just the culmination of a centuries-old aspiration but also a celebration of faith, culture, and resilience. The atmosphere in Ayodhya was electric as the city welcomed devotees who had waited generations for this sacred day.
The Ram Mandir quickly established itself as a magnet for pilgrims. In just twelve days following its inauguration, it welcomed an astonishing 2.4 million devotees, setting a precedent for its role as one of Bharat’s most visited spiritual destinations.
New Year’s Day 2025 further solidified this status. Over 500,000 devotees visited the mandir on January 1, with an additional 200,000 arriving on New Year’s Eve. This incredible turnout underscored the mandir’s significance as a beacon of faith and devotion.
Ayodhya’s appeal extended beyond Bharat’s borders. In 2024 alone, the city attracted 135.5 million domestic tourists and over 3,000 international visitors, making it Uttar Pradesh’s most visited destination.
The first Deepotsav celebration following the mandir’s consecration was a spectacle of devotion and grandeur. Held on October 30, 2024, it set two Guinness World Records, showcasing the collective faith of devotees and the vibrant cultural heritage of Ayodhya.
An awe-inspiring 2,512,585 diyas were lit along the banks of the Saryu River, surpassing the previous record of 2,223,676 diyas set in 2023. This breathtaking display transformed Ayodhya into a glowing wonderland, visible from miles away. Drones and Guinness World Records representatives meticulously verified the count, confirming this historic achievement.
In another record-breaking moment, 1,121 participants performed synchronised diya rotations (aarti) at the Saryu Ghat. This collective act of devotion symbolised the unity and unwavering faith of Ayodhya’s people.
Pravin Patel, the official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, lauded the city for its extraordinary accomplishments. “Ayodhya has set a benchmark in devotion and unity,” he said. “The world is witnessing the unparalleled faith of this holy city.”
Deepotsav 2024 was more than a celebration—it was a spiritual and cultural renaissance. The banks of the Saryu River were illuminated by millions of diyas, creating a surreal and enchanting atmosphere. Spectacular laser and light shows, a sound-and-light presentation narrating episodes from the Ramayana, and intricately designed tableaux depicting key moments from Bhagwan Ram’s life added to the festivities.
The highlight of the event was a grand chariot procession led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The procession reenacted Bhagwan Ram’s triumphant return to Ayodhya, with artists portraying Ram, Sita, and Lakshman. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya accompanied the Chief Minister, further emphasising the significance of the occasion.
During the celebrations, CM Yogi Adityanath addressed the gathering, emphasising the resurgence of Sanatan Dharma and the transformation of Ayodhya under his government. “Ayodhya today stands as a beacon of faith, spirituality, and cultural pride,” he said. Drawing parallels with the rejuvenation of the Kashi Vishwanath mandir, he proclaimed, “Ayodhya is shining brighter than ever, symbolising Bharat’s spiritual heritage.”
Recalling the early days of Deepotsav, Yogi Adityanath shared how devotees had once urged him to prioritise the construction of the Ram Mandir, chanting, “Yogi ji, ek kaam karo, mandir ka nirman karo.” With the mandir now a reality, he declared, “The diyas we light today represent the triumph of faith and unity.”
