The Thampu Film Society, named after the iconic G. Aravindan film Thampu, has extended the deadline for submissions to the much-anticipated Aravindam National Short Film Festival, scheduled to take place in Kottayam on March 14, 15, and 16, 2025. This decision comes in response to requests from filmmakers, particularly from North Indian states, following the delayed announcement of the competition in certain regions. The new submission deadline is now January 21, 2025, coinciding with the 90th birth anniversary of G. Aravindan, as a tribute to the legendary filmmaker.
The Aravindam National Short Film Festival offers filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their talent and win some of the most substantial prizes in the short film industry. As announced by the Secretary of Thampu Film Society, the competition is open to short films with a maximum duration of 30 minutes, divided into two categories: 1. General Category 2. Campus Category
Awards will be presented in both categories for the following:
The Best Film in the General Category will win ₹1,00,000 and a statue of fame, while the Best Film in the Campus Category will be awarded ₹50,000 and a statue of fame.
In addition, a special award will be presented for the Best Theme Film focusing on social responsibility, offering a prize of ₹1,00,000, a certificate, and a statue of fame.
Competition Themes:
The themes for the film festival are designed to inspire creativity while addressing crucial aspects of personal and social responsibility.
One of the key themes, Awakening the Divinity of Family Life, emphasizes the importance of nurturing familial bonds and values that form the foundation of a harmonious society.
Another theme, Responsible Citizenship through Civic Sense, encourages filmmakers to explore the role of individuals in building a responsible and aware community by fostering civic responsibility and public consciousness.
The theme of Social Unity highlights the need for fostering harmony and inclusivity in a diverse society, promoting the idea of collective strength through unity.
Environmental Protection calls for films that address the pressing need for ecological conservation, urging individuals to take meaningful steps to safeguard the planet for future generations.
As per the organiser, eighteen films will be shortlisted for the festival finale, with each finalist receiving ₹10,000, a certificate, and a statue of fame.
Eligibility and Entry Details:
Films released between January 1, 2024, and December 30, 2024, as well as unreleased films, are eligible for submission. The entry fee is ₹1,000 for the General Category, while the Campus Category requires no entry fee. Submissions can be made through FilmFreeway. Renowned filmmaker and critic Vijaya Krishnan, the Director of the festival, will lead a distinguished jury to ensure awards are granted for true cinematic excellence.
