Raipur: A joint team of security forces have neutralised three Maoists in an exchange of fire that broke out between the forces and the outlaws at the Sukma-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh on Thursday, police said.
The operation was launched by a joint team comprising of personnel from District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Sharing the details of the gunfight, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sukma, Kiran Chauhan said that “bodies of three Maoists along with weapons have been recovered. Search operation in the area is being carried out.”
Reacting to the news, Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Vijay Sharma said, “Security forces have had success in their operations in Sukma. Whatever the Maoists have done with the security personnel has fuelled them with anger, I have witnessed this personally. I repeat that Maoism will meet its end on time. Today, the bodies of 3 naxals have been recovered from there, search operation is continuing there.”
The Deputy CM earlier in the day informed, that a meeting of all the branches of police department took place on Wednesday. “Everyone shared with us their action plan for the next two months. The impact of this meeting will be visible soon,” said Sharma.
As many as eight security personnel along with a civilian driver lost their lives in a powerful IED blast triggered by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on January 6. The explosion took place when the personnel were returning from a joint operation launched by the Bijapur, Dantewada and Narayanpur police.
