A video attributed to Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Khalistani terrorist of the banned organisation Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), surfaced on social media. The video, released on December 24, explicitly threatens to disrupt key bathing dates of the upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, which are slated for January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).
Pannun specifically threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, claiming that his organization, SFJ, would seek “revenge” for the deaths of the three militants.
Militants Identified
The three militants killed in the encounter have been identified as:
– Gurvinder Singh (25)
– Virender Singh alias Ravi (23)
– Jaspreet Singh alias Pratap Singh (18)
All three were members of the Khalistan Zindabad Force, a banned terrorist group advocating for a separate Khalistani state.
Pilibhit Police have confirmed that legal proceedings against Pannun are underway. Authorities have also stepped up security measures for the Maha Kumbh 2025, which is expected to draw millions of pilgrims from across the country and the world.
A senior police official assured, “We are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and sanctity of the Maha Kumbh. Such threats will not be allowed to disrupt this sacred gathering.”
Mahant Ravindra Puri, president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, dismissed Pannun’s threats as baseless and inflammatory. Speaking from Mahakumbh Nagar, he emphasised the unity of the Sikh and Hindu communities in preserving Sanatan Dharma.
“If Pannun dares to enter our Maha Kumbh, he will be beaten and driven out. We have seen countless such lunatics in the past,” Mahant Puri declared. He further highlighted the historical role of the Sikh community in defending Sanatan Dharma, countering attempts to divide the two communities.
Mahant Puri stressed the deep spiritual and cultural connections between Sikhs and Hindus. He noted that prominent akhadas such as Bada Udasin Akhada, Naya Udasin Akhada, and Nirmal Akhada, based in Punjab, have long upheld the values of Sanatan Dharma.
“This is the Maha Kumbh, where Hindus and Sikhs stand united. Pannun’s rhetoric is divisive and uncalled for. Such extremist language is aimed at disrupting our traditions, but it will not succeed,” he said.
