As the Mahakumbh 2025 approaches, the banks of Triveni are not only set to witness a spiritual awakening but also an economic boom. The market around the upcoming Mahakumbh has experienced a significant surge in demand, particularly for products bearing the event’s logo and symbols. This uptrend is especially noticeable in the gifting and stationery sectors, as the New Year approaches, with traders reporting a rise in sales by as much as 20-25 per cent.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the grand success of the Mahakumbh in January 2025. The state’s aggressive branding and promotional efforts have resulted in an outpouring of enthusiasm from local businesses and traders.
This year, the traditional New Year gift exchange has taken a unique turn in Prayagraj. Several local traders have introduced Mahakumbh-themed products that have quickly become popular among residents and visitors alike.
Arvind Kumar Agarwal, owner of Bhagwati Papers Trading in Prayagraj’s Zero Road area, is one such entrepreneur who has seized the opportunity. Agarwal launched a range of 14 stationery items featuring the Mahakumbh logo, including diaries, file boxes, calendars, pens, pen stands, and key rings. The response has been overwhelming, with demand skyrocketing, not only from Prayagraj but also from cities outside the region.
“This surge in demand for Mahakumbh-themed stationery products has exceeded our expectations. It is a testament to the excitement surrounding the event, which is inspiring both locals and visitors to embrace it,” Agarwal shared.
The Mahakumbh 2025 is also being touted as a significant event in the push for sustainability, as the Uttar Pradesh government has prioritised creating a plastic-free environment during the event. This initiative has led to a marked rise in demand for eco-friendly products such as jute and cotton bags.
Gopal Pandey, the proprietor of Shiva International, a wholesale business specialising in jute and cotton bags, has seen his sales soar. Pandey, who prints the Mahakumbh’s divine symbols on his bags, reported that he has already received orders for more than 25,000 units, with strong demand continuing to flood in.
“The government’s push for a plastic-free Mahakumbh has been a key driver of this growth. Our jute and cotton bags, featuring the Mahakumbh logo, have become an essential part of the festivities. We’ve seen a sharp increase in orders, both within the Mahakumbh region and from outside markets,” Pandey explained.
Mahendra Goyal, the Uttar Pradesh President of the Confederation of All Traders, draws a parallel to the surge in business during the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. He emphasised that the spiritual significance of Mahakumbh, combined with strategic branding, has resulted in a 20-25% increase in sales of Mahakumbh-themed products.
“The Mahakumbh’s branding has created a powerful market sentiment, and businesses are thriving. The event is not only a spiritual milestone but also an economic one. The businesses are benefiting from the increased awareness and excitement surrounding the event,” Goyal added.
With the government’s branding initiatives and the cultural fervor driving consumer sentiment, traders are optimistic that sales will continue to grow as the event draws closer. Many businesses are preparing to meet the surge in demand, hoping to capitalise on the economic vibrancy created by the Mahakumbh.
This blend of cultural sentiment and strategic marketing has made the Mahakumbh 2025 a catalyst for economic prosperity in Uttar Pradesh. Local businesses are thriving, offering products that capture the grandeur and divine essence of the Mahakumbh, from stationery items to eco-friendly bags, and everything in between.
