Bengaluru: In a serious turn of events, BJP member of the Legislative Council, CT Ravi, has suspected  he could be murdered by police that raises alarming questions about the integrity of the state government and its law enforcement agencies. Following his arrest for allegedly insulting Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Ravi has demanded a judicial inquiry into the police’s conduct, further alleging that his life was under threat during a shocking sequence of events surrounding his arrest.

The circumstances of Ravi’s arrest have stirred significant unrest, particularly given the gravity of his accusations against the police and the government. Speaking at a press conference after his release—granted by the High Court late Friday night—Ravi recounted a harrowing ordeal that he claims was not just a procedural misstep but indicative of a deeper, more ominous design orchestrated by influential figures in the state.

Arrest Without Due Process

Ravi started by asserting that his arrest was illegal, arguing that it should have come with the explicit permission of the Speaker of the Legislative Council, given that the incident in question occurred within the confines of the House. This breach of protocol not only raises eyebrows but also highlights a potential abuse of power. “It is a crime to register a case and arrest without the permission of the Speaker,” he stated emphatically, pointing towards a concerning lack of adherence to legal standards that protect legislative members.

Ravi’s account takes a darker turn as he described a 15-hour ordeal following his arrest, during which he felt that his life was in grave danger. He stated, “The police roamed around me, behaving mysteriously; influential people were calling them and giving directions.” Such statements suggest a disturbing reality where law enforcement may act at the behest of political powers rather than the rule of law. This invocation of ‘influential people’ calling the shots echoes sentiments that cast doubt on the impartiality of police conduct in a politically charged environment.

Threats to Safety and Erosion of Trust

Moreover, the BJP MLC voiced his grave concerns regarding the reported threats made against him, claiming that he was told, “We will send your body to the Suvarna Soudha itself.” This not only underscores the personal risks he faced but also paints a picture of a political landscape where dissent is met with violence rather than dialogue. Ravi’s recounting of an environment rife with intimidation reflects a broader climate of fear that can stifle free speech and political discourse.

The allegations of being followed through fields, stone quarries, and narrow alleyways further reveal what appears to be a calculated effort to silence him. The suggestion that he could have been the target of a planned assassination attempt speaks volumes about the deteriorating relationships between political figures and law enforcement within the state. The chilling implication is that any political figure stepping out of line might face dire repercussions.
