In a significant boost to Kerala’s industrial landscape, Bharat’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven semiconductor subsidiary is set to be established in Ozhiyoor, Malappuram district. This landmark project, which is part of a larger joint venture between the Tata Group and Taiwan-based Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, marks a pivotal moment for India’s semiconductor industry.

The new plant, located near Thanoor in Ozhiyoor Grama Panchayat, will serve as a subsidiary to the state-of-the-art Semiconductor Fabrication Facility (FAB) scheduled to launch in Dholera, Gujarat. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Group, confirmed the developments, revealing that discussions between the Tata Group and the Government of Kerala are ongoing. The facility will leverage cutting-edge AI-based technology, with Tata Group projecting the creation of approximately 100,000 jobs.

This new facility is a part of Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of Tata Sons, and is part of the group’s broader ambition to make a significant impact on the global semiconductor industry. The first AI-powered semiconductor FAB in Bharat, the Ozhiyoor unit, is poised to accelerate the country’s growth in this crucial sector.

Semiconductors, materials capable of conducting electricity under certain conditions, are vital for modern electronics, including computers, smartphones, and solar cells. These components are indispensable to industries such as defense, healthcare, communication, and logistics, among others.

The establishment of this AI-powered semiconductor plant in Kerala holds immense potential for the state and the country. As semiconductors become increasingly essential for everyday life and industry, this new facility will not only contribute to Kerala’s industrial development but also aid Bharat’s goal of becoming a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.
