Guwahati: The Islamist fish traders and producers in the middle Assam district of Nagaon on the 26th of August threatened not to export fish to the upper Assam districts. The threat is a part of the ongoing tension between indigenous Assamese organisations and Bangladesh origin Muslims in Assam after the brutal gangrape of a minor Hindu girl by three Muslim men in the Dhing area of Nagaon district. One of the rapists arrested by police died drowning when he jumped into a deep pond while attempting to flee the police custody.

After the heinous crime committed by Islamists, the Indigenous organisations of upper Assam asked the Bangladeshi origin Muslims to leave the upper Assam districts of Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia by August 30. The members of the local organisations surveyed many locations and sites where doubtful Bangladeshis were engaged as labourers. The local organisations asked these people to leave the upper Assam districts by August 30. The owners of the houses were also warned to vacate their rented properties by the local organisations that the Bangladeshi-origin Muslim labourers were staying as tenants in these districts.  It should be mentioned that Bangladesh-origin Muslims have been targeting the Hindu Assamese majority upper Assam districts for the last few years. These people are committing numerous crimes in these areas including love jihad. Recently one Babu Ali trapped a Hindu girl impersonating himself as a Hindu boy in Sivasagar district. He abducted the girl to Sonitpur district and forced her to marry him by converting to Islam. But after a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, the police rescued the girl and arrested Babu Ali.

After the threat of the Islamist fish producers and traders not to supply fish to upper Assam, the indigenous organisations reacted sharply. Rantu Buragohain, member of a local organisation, said that fish is not the issue. The prime concern is the safety of the state and the girls and women. Even if the Islamist fish traders don’t supply fish, the upper Assam districts could manage with their fish production. But we will not step back from our mission of making upper Assam Bangladeshi free, he said. Senior journalist Nandan Pratim Sharma Bordoloi said that people of Assam accepted the challenge posed by the Islamist fish traders. All their products are full of chemicals and fertilisers which are harmful to health. Numerous videos are there which are proof of the fact that Muslims fish and vegetables producers used excessive fertilisers to grow their products, Bordoloi said. It should be mentioned that after the Lok Sabha election 2024, the Bangladeshi origin Muslima are targeting the Hindu people in different parts of the state. Over 30 incidents of attacks along with rapes by Islamist came to light in the last 4 months. Indigenous people are worried about their security and appeal to the BJP led government to ensure the safety of women and locals.
