RPF, BSF, CISF reserves 10 per cent seats for ex-agniveers, supports transition to civilian roles

In a significant move aimed at providing employment opportunities to former Agniveers of the Indian Army, the Ministry of Home Affairs has mandated a 10 per cent reservation in recruitment processes across three central security forces. This decision, initially announced in 2022, marks a proactive step towards integrating ex-servicemen into civilian security roles.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have swiftly adopted the reservation policy for Agniveers, ensuring equitable opportunities in their respective recruitments. Notably, the reserved quota includes exemptions from certain physical criteria, facilitating smoother transitions for these experienced personnel.

Speaking on the implementation, RPF Director General Manoj Yadav emphasized, “Future recruitments in the RPF will allocate 10 per cent of positions to former Agniveers. They will not only benefit from the reservation but also receive age exemptions.”

Yadav outlined that retirees from the army in 2026-27 will enjoy a 5-year age relaxation, while subsequent batches will receive a 3-year exemption. Additionally, physical fitness tests will be waived for former Agniveers applying to the RPF.

Similarly, CISF Director General Neena Gupta highlighted CISF’s preparedness to integrate Agniveers into its ranks. “We have designated 10 per cent of constable positions for Agniveers in CISF recruitment, alongside exemptions in physical standards and age limits,” Gupta affirmed, predicting enhanced operational efficiency within CISF as a result.

BSF Director General Nitin Agrawal commended the suitability of Agniveers for BSF roles, stating, “Having served diligently for 4 years, Agniveers are well-equipped for BSF duties. We are eager to deploy them promptly upon their transition. Our recruitments will include 10 per cent reserved seats and provide age relaxations.”

Under the policy, 25 per cent of Agniveers will be retained for extended service beyond their initial 4-year term, while others will receive retirement benefits. This initiative, first introduced in 2022, aims to support the welfare and employment prospects of ex-servicemen across central security forces, aligning with broader governmental efforts for their integration into civilian life.
