In a major success for security forces grappling with the Maoists challenge across states, as many as two hardcore female cadres of the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist) have surrendered before the police on Thursday, June 27.
Both the surrendered Maoist cadres had joined the Maoist group over a decade ago and were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 16 lakh as announced by the government, informed police on Thursday evening.
The surrendered cadres have been identified as Bali alias Rambatti alias Zarina Narote and Sasikala alias Chandrakala alias Sunanda alias Manisha Uike, both section commanders of Company no 10 of the banned Maoist group.
According to the information received, Bali Narote had joined the Maoist outfit in the year 2010 as a Dalam member and rose to rank of section commander in subsequent years. She has been named in a total of 21 cases pending against her in separate police stations.
Meanwhile Uike was reported to be active in the Maoist group for thirteen years and she too had joined the outlaws as Dalam member, a total of 8 cases are pending against Uike for which a bounty of Rs 8 lakh has already been announced by the government.
The surrender of Uike and Narote has taken place days after notorious Maoist Nangsu Turmeti alias Giridhar along with wife, Sangeeta Usendi alias Lalita had also surrender before the police in presence of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis on June 22.
The surrendered couple were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 41 lakh on their heads as announced by the central and the state government. Giridhar who joined the outlawed outfit in the year 1996 has a total of 179 cases pending against him. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 25 Lakh on his head and was reported to be in-charge of a significant formation of Maoists.
17 Maoists surrender under Lone Varatu campaign
In another significant development related to Maoists, as many as 17 lower-rung operatives including three female cadres of the outlawed outfit have turned themselves and surrender before the police in Maoist infested Dantewada district on Wednesday, June 26.
Those who have surrendered were inspired by the ‘Lone Varatu’ campaign being run in the district, they have also expressed disbelief in the Maoist’s ideology and joined the mainstream by surrendering here, informed Superintendent of Police (SP), Dantewada, Gaurav Rai.
It’s been learned that five of the Maoists among those who have surrendered were carrying a reward of Rs one lakh each, the surrendered cadres were involved in carrying out various unlawful activities on behalf of the Maoist outfit.
Noatbly, more than 800 active cadres of the banned Maoist outfit including hundreds of those carrying a reward have so far surrendered under the flagship Lone Varatu campaign which was launched in the year 2020 with an aim to outreach those locals who had mistakenly joined the outlawed outfit under the influence of Maoist propaganda and wanted to make a return to the mainstream
The recent surrendered under the flagship campaign has occurred on the heels of Sukma police nabbing of as many as six Maoist operatives who were reported to be behind the IED blasts carried out by the Maoists near Timmar village under Jagargunda police station limits of Sukma district on June 23.
A total of two personnel of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were killed in the explosion. The deceased personnel were identified as Shailendra Kumar, a resident of Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh and Vishnu R, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala.
