In a significant development, police have arrested an Over Ground Worker (OGW) believed to be a prime suspect in facilitating and providing logistical support to militants during the Reasi Yatri terror attack.
The suspect, identified as Hakam Din (40), son of M.A. Khan, a resident of Bandhrahi (Saida Nallha) in District Rajouri, has been arrested by Jammu & Kashmir Police in Reasi. Authorities stated that Hakam Din had repeatedly harbored militants, providing them with food, shelter, and acting as a guide to the attack site.
The senior superintendent of police in Reasi, Mohita Sharma, commented, “One person has been formally arrested in the Reasi terror attack. He is not the mastermind but played an important role in the attack.”
The attack on June 9 involved militants targeting a Yatri bus from the Ransoo area of Reasi district. The driver lost control due to the assault, causing the bus to plunge into a deep gorge near Kanda area of Pouni. This tragic incident resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and injuries to 41 others.
According to official sources, a significant breakthrough has been made in Case FIR No. 31/2024, which pertains to the terrorist attack on a pilgrim bus from Shiv Khori on June 9. The case falls under multiple sections of Indian law, including 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 7/27 of the Arms Act, and sections 16, 18, and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), PS – Pouni.
On June 17, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) handed over the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This decision followed a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who instructed security forces and intelligence agencies to replicate the counter-terrorism successes achieved in the Kashmir Valley in the Jammu region.
