In a significant development, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday, April 11, in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam.

The arrest follows closely on the heels of revelations made by the CBI before a Delhi court, stating that Kavitha had been examined in Tihar Jail on April 6 concerning a money laundering case linked to the Delhi Liquor Policy Scam.

This latest arrest comes subsequent to Kavitha’s earlier arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15. Her judicial custody, initially extended until April 23, has now been intersected by this subsequent arrest by the CBI.

Last week, Kavitha sought to challenge the CBI’s request to interrogate her and record her statements in jail, urging the court to retract its decision. However, the court, on April 5, granted permission for the CBI to question Kavitha within the confines of Tihar Jail. Kavitha was arrested on March 15 by ED at Hyderabad.

Kavitha alleged to have played a crucial role in the Delhi Exercise policy scam, where she represented the South lobby for kickbacks from the AAP.  The ED also detained Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the same case. Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain are already in jail on charges related to the same case.

The arrest of Kavitha, the daughter of former CM K Chandrashekar Rao, has significantly impacted the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Party’s campaign efforts for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections. Reports indicate that leaders and cadre of the party are defecting to either the Congress or the BJP, posing challenges for the BRS. Despite attempts by top BRS figures like KTR, Harish Rao, and KCR to portray themselves as political victims, public sentiment appears to be sceptical of their claims.
