Tamil Nadu: Heartbreaking scenes as Bhagwan Ganesha’s idol makers plead police officers not to seal their godowns

The DMK government in Tamil Nadu is hell bent to add to the woes of the idol makers of Bhagwan Ganesha as the self-proclaimed environmentalists woke up from their slumber to stop the idols being made and posed various obstacles by using the police force against the idol makers.

Tamil Nadu’s Dravidian government and half baked atheists are stating that Vinayagar worship is north Indian custom and it has  no place in EV Ramaswamy Naciker’s soil. The devotees have to move pillar to post and to the courts to get approval for installation and immersion of the idols. Some of the progressive and proactive learned judges, on their part, would give sermons to organisers of Hindu festivals ( not to other faiths) or issue restrictions even asking the organisers to get NoC from Jamaats.

This year is no exception to this orchestrated pattern. The opposition stems from the choice of clay, plaster of parris, eco friendly chemical paints, size , installation, crowd and timing of prayers to immersion route. A couple of days ago, a petition was submitted by the Hindu People’s Party to the local police station seeking permission to worship idols and processions at 22 places in Kaundhapadi in Erode district, 13 places under Gunnathur police station in Tirupur district, and 16 places in Sirumuga in Coimbatore.

Against the rejection of these petitions, petitions were filed in the Madras High Court seeking permission to place the idol of Ganesha and for the procession. While hearing the case, Justice N Anand Venkatesh commented “Ganesha did not ask to keep the idol and take it in a procession” and pointedly questioned, “What is the benefit of these celebrations to the people?”.

The courts never bothered to ask while so much memorial of dead leaders, why Pen memorial for DMK Patriach and what was use for common poor man which are built on tax payers’ money; but only question the Hindus and their customs. Murugan, a native of Shenkottai in Tenkasi, has been running the business of making murtis ranging from 2 feet to 12 feet using eco-friendly materials for decades. Murugan and his father, Thirumalai,
make murtis of Hindu deities and sell them through their shop Sri Murugan Handcrafts. He was busy in making idols for which he had orders.

Murugan alleged that a team of cops led by Shenkottai DSP Nagashankar came to his handcrafts shop on September 7 and accused him of using the banned Plaster of Paris compound to cast murtis. In a video of Murugan ( a BJP functionary) alleged that Tamil Nadu police are harassing him based on false accusations has gone viral on social media. Police accused him of using the banned Plaster of Paris to make murtis, reportedly to target his business. in a video idol making unit worker Murugan was manhandled by Superintendent of Police (SP) alleging he is producing Plaster of Parris (PP ) idols. He broke one to prove its biodegradable flour, still SP ordered FAKE FIR against him! Murugan ordered to destroy all idols. He further says that the DSP inquired whether he was member of any political party, and on being told that he is a BJP functionary, he asked, “You think you are a big shot if you are in some party?”. The DSP continued to speak in an insulting tone, hit him, and pushed him down.

Murugan alleges that he was not even allowed to answer and refute his allegations. The DSP then called the Inspector and asked him to “file some case on him and get him on the van”. He also said, “I’ll file cases on you so that you and your business are finished in a year”.

Local #BJP unit has reached & is assisting him in all the way. He won’t be touched. Brother @TenkasiAnanthan with Murugan after the visit. https://t.co/vy9Ydqxz6p pic.twitter.com/0I7TtTdnqq

Advocate AswathaamanI in a tweet said “ I spoke with Ganesha idol maker Shri. Murugan, who was harassed by the Tamilnadu Police. And I insisted him to open his godown and I asked him to call me if any torture from the police side. #AntiHinduDMK govt gives various torture to the makers of #GANESHA IDOLS for #GaneshChaturthi. The abusive and filthy language spoken by the police inspector was clearly recorded in the video. We decided to take the issue before the Human Rights Commission. All over Tamilnadu, Policemen are stationed at every idol-making place, for the reasons best known to them. And no permission is given for new places for the erection of Ganesha idol on the street”.

Officials from the Pollution Control Board (PCB)revenue department officials and police, conducted a surprise raid on the idol-making site following a complaint alleging the use of plaster of Paris (PoP) in contravention of the regulations. Despite the fact that the makers have been creating idols for over a decade using materials such as potato flour and other natural flours that easily dissolve in water, the authorities proceeded to seal the premises.
In a video that has been doing rounds in social media, women in tears in their eyes ( Rajasthan) from Tollgate, Karur is seen crying and begging with the officials saying, “Sir we have borrowed money for huge interest to make these idols, please let us be. We have pledged our jewels and borrowed on higher interest rates. Please leave us.

Their cries fell on deaf ears of inhuman officials. The officials sealed their work place with idols worth over 10 lakh rupees.

If they are concerned with environmental , they would not have allowed politicians to exploit natural resources particularly sand and mine quarries.

The artisans, who hail from northern states of India mainly Rajasthan, are facing a bleak future as they have borrowed substantial sums of money for their business and depend on the sale of the idols during the festive season for their livelihoods. They make idols from makeshift tents on road sides.

Near Poiyyur in Ariyalur district, police removed a statue from a temple premises despite opposition from the administrators. Police arrested VHP functionaries and manhandled them as if they were performing duties as per the rule book. The DMK stooges go overboard to show their loyalty and some elements from Abrahamic religions use this opportunity to exhibit their die hard hatred towards Hinduism.

The Hindu community’s sentiments have been continuously and callously wounded by the ruling regime, particularly since their ascent to power in 2021. DMK senior leaders, ministers including Chief Minister M K Stalin and allies of the ruling party have been spewing venom on Hinduism, Sanatana dharma through their daily doses of hatred wounding the sentiments of crores of people across the Bharat. Political will of the people should prevail during the next polls would eradicate such elements from the electoral arena.
