Imphal: Inspector General of Police (IGP) IK Muivah informed that out of the 175 deceased 96 bodies are still unclaimed despite the fact that the police have identified 166 of the deceased persons. Most of the unclaimed bodies are still lying in the morgue of Churachandpur district hospital.
IGP Muivah further informed that a total of 5172 cases of arson have been reported across the state since the beginning of the violence in the state on May 3rd 2023. The IGP further informed that a total of 4786 houses were set on fire by miscreants in Manipur in the last four months. Along with this 386 religious structures were also vandalised or set ablaze. Out of which 254 are Churches and 132 are Temples.
IGP Muivah also said that a total of 9332 FIR were registered across the state since the beginning of the violence and 325 accused have been arrested by police so sar. The IGP further said that a whopping 5668 arms and over 6.6 lakhs of ammunitions were looted by miscreants and mob during the violence from different police stations and battalions.
Over 14 thousand bombs, grenades were also looted by mobs and miscreants since May 3rd in the state. Out of which 1359 arms and 15050 ammunition were recovered so far by the security forces in numbers of combat operations. Moreover over 350 bunkers constructed by miscreants were also destroyed by the security forces in both valley and hill districts of Manipur.
It should be mentioned that violence started in Manipur during a solidarity march by tribal students union against the ST status to the Meitei community on May 3rd. The deadly violence started in Churachandpur district spread across the state in no times and after over 3 months of period Manipur still searching for permanent peace.
