Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is on a massive peace outreach engaging with different sections of people. In a bid to restore peace and normalcy in the State, which has been witnessing unrest since May 3, the CM is holding talks with the civil society organisations in Imphal.
The CM is meeting academicians, intellectuals, doctors and entrepreneurs as part of his fresh initiative to restore peace and normalcy in the State.
Moreover, on July 19, CM Singh met with the chief secretary, Security Advisor, Director General of Police (DGP), and senior police officials at the secretariat to review the security matters. The State government is taking all possible measures to ensure normalcy is returned in the State. He also met with Manipur’s renowned doctors and health service providers in the presence of Union Minister S Ranjan Singh and officials. CM Singh Said, “We had a very productive discussion on ensuring the delivery of seamless healthcare services across the State. I’m also thankful for their valuable suggestions for bringing peace to Manipur.”
On the other hand, the Manipur CM and the legislators expressed grave concern about the recent killings of innocent individuals and warned the public not to take the law into their own hands. The State Government strongly condemned killing innocent individuals, regardless of their religion, community and gender. The Government has ordered the security forces to take stern action against those involved in these crimes. Accordingly, several miscreants have been apprehended by security agencies for indulging in unlawful activities. Nine persons, including five women, have been arrested by Imphal East District Police in connection with the incident in which one woman was found dead at Keibi Heika Mapal Manning Ching on July 15. Two arms, five pieces of ammunition and one car were seized in connection with the case.
Attack on Manipur Police
The Manipur Police condemns the dastardly attack against Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kabib K and his escort personnel on July 17 at Kwakeithel, Imphal West. Manipur police have appealed to the public not to indulge in such anti-social deeds. Thirty persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, and raids will continue to apprehend more people involved in the said incident. While the Police are working round the clock to bring normalcy to the State, the public is expected to abide by and cooperate with the police authorities. Police have further appealed to the public that there should be no obstacle to the movement of security forces in carrying out their official duties. All lawful/ legal action will be taken up in case of any deviation and obstruction.
Search Operation and Checking at Nakas
During the last 24 hours, State Police and Central forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts. Three arms and six pieces of ammunition were recovered from Imphal East. One bunker was also dismantled. A total of 123 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley. The Police detained 438 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State.
On the other hand, Internally displaced people of Manipur’s Sugnu and Sorou on July 18 staged a demonstration demanding the authorities reign in peace in the State so that they may return home. People taking refuge in various refugee camps in Kakching took a peace rally in Kakching Bazar, seeking to return peace to the trouble-torn State.
Clashes broke out in Manipur on May 3 2023, during the solidarity march by the Tribal Students Union against the listing of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe list. Over 142 people have lost their lives in the ongoing violence, and more than 60000 people were displaced
