The campaigns are in full swing in the southern state of Karnataka for the 2023 assembly elections. The voting will start on May 10. The All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi while addressing a rally in Jamkhandi said Congress is the reason behind all the problems faced by Muslims and Dalits in India.

Owaisi’s party is contesting the assembly polls in Karnataka for the first time. Earlier the party won four corporator posts in municipal elections. Owaisi is campaigning in the state for the party candidates, he was at Hubbali the other day and addressed a public gathering in Jamkhandi on May 4.

While addressing the gathering he said, “Congress plays as if they are messiah for minorities and Dalit but they are not. In 2021, Eid children were arrested and released only after 40 days. The Congress party came in support only after the children were released.”

He said, “Baba Saheb Ambedkar drafted the constitution of India to make sure everyone has equal rights but this Congress supports BJP in-laws like the Unlawful Prevention Act (UAPA). When Amit Shah brought the law in Lok Sabha in 2019, Rahul Gandhi appreciated him.”

“In Hubbali 150 people are in jail, for being falsely framed under the UAPA. I went there met the families they are crying because of the Congress government”, he added.

He said, “Congress will keep promising that we will do this and we will do that but see Rajasthan. It has the congress government only but still, the minorities are in vulnerable conditions. Under the congress rule Nassir and Junaid died”.

He promised that in AIMIM wins the seat they will allow the people of the area to celebrate ‘Shaheed Tipu Sultan Jayanti’. He also said that, there is no Urdu intermediate college in the area if their party wins they will build one.

Hitting out at the Congress party on May 2, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that the grand old party just makes promises before the elections but non of them are fulfilled. Referring to the Babri Masjid demolition, he said that Congress made a resolution of rebuilding the mosque but nothing was done.

“When Babri Masjid was demolished, they made a resolution of rebuilding a mosque there. What became of that? A lot of things are said before elections. You can see what happens post-elections…,” said Owaisi.

Owaisi refuted the claims made by Congress that he was sent by the BJP to divide Muslim votes in the poll-bound Karnataka.”…This is nonsense. We are contesting on only 2 seats across Karnataka with them. There is a saying in Urdu – naach na jaane aangan tedha. That is their case,” he said.

Earlier on, the Congress released its manifesto for Karnataka polls making a slew of promises such as `Gruha Jyoti`, `Gruha Lakshmi`, and `Anna Bhagya` even as it apparently sought to draw a parallel between Bajrang Dal and PFI and said it will take decisive action as per law including imposing a ban on any organizations which promote enmity and hatred.

According to the party, “law and Constitution is sacrosanct and can not be violated by individuals and organisations like Bajrang Dal, PFI or others promoting enmity or hatred, whether among majority or minority communities. We will take decisive action as per law including imposing a ban on any such organisations”.

The manifesto was released by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge in the presence of senior state leaders. The party said it will increase the quota limit from 50 percent to 75 percent for all castes based on population.
