On the occasion of Universal Brotherhood day the world celebrates many eminent figures but rarely does it mention one of the greatest proponents of universal brotherhood and universal acceptance – Swami Vivekananda. In remembrance and in honour of this great spiritual stalwart, who had introduced a novel concept of peace and humanity through Hindu philosophy at the world conference in Chicago on September 11, 1893, a social organisation, Vayam Sanstha, has organised a Maharudra Abhishek on the 11th September. This day has also been chosen keeping in mind the deadliest terror attack on Amercian soil – the 9/11 that took the lives of almost 3000 people.
Vayam Sanstha founder and organiser Gaurav Tripathi told reporters in Pune that it is expected that the Rudrabhiskek will be performed by around one lakh people virtually. The primary venue is going to be Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Varanasi.
“Swami Vivekananda in his address on September 11 gave the message of world peace by ending intolerance, exploitation, terrorism-free society, religious respect and humanity. In true sense, September 11 should be ideally celebrated as “World Peace Day”. On that occasion, the message of world peace should reach the whole world. For this purpose Maharudrabhishek will be performed by one lakh devotees across the country. This virtual Maharudrabhishek will be a world record.” Tripathi said about the upcoming mega event.
Speaking to Organiser Weekly, Tripathi hopes to make this an annual event based on the positive feedback it received for this first endeavour. “The 11th of September is already celebrated as Universal Brotherhood Day and on this occasion Swami Vivekananda’s message of universal acceptance and universal brotherhood based on Hindu Dharma should be reach as many people around the world. So we are trying to get all the eleven Jyotirlingas to participate in the event and seven of them have confirmed so far. Apart from the Jyotirlings many other temples are coming onboard. Internationally we have already started the sign up process in US, UK and Australia, these are places where VHP has a base” he said.
