Eviction drive against illegal settlers in Bokajan Assam; the Evicted area was a drug paradise run by migrant Muslims mafias

Locals accused that two Muslim mafias Asad Khan and Ramjan Ali, encroached the forest land and later sold or rented the land to hundreds of illegal settlers.

Guwahati: The Assam government has evicted a drugs transit paradise built by migrant Muslims in the Assam-Nagaland border in the Bokajan area on Monday (December 20). Around 180 Muslim families resided in the government land, encroaching on it long back. The place has become the transit route of drugs and has become the haven for all illegal anti-social activities.

Locals accused that two Muslim mafias, Asad Khan and Ramjan Ali, encroached on the forest land and later sold or rented the land to hundreds of illegal settlers. The Assam Government and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council jointly have carried out an eviction drive at the Assam-Nagaland border in Bokajan. The eviction drive has been carried out at Lahorijan Dudu Colony. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, the district administration, forest department, and CRPF have carried out the eviction drive.

The district administration of Karbi Anglong imposed Section 144 CrPC in areas of Lahorijan Block No. 3 under Borjan Mouza of Bokajan Sub-Division to maintain public peace during the eviction carried out by the authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

During the eviction drive, encroachers will be cleared out of the area. Shops and business establishments within 700 metres radius of Dudu Colony will remain closed during the eviction drive.

Reacting to a question by the media, chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the place was a haven for drug mafias. Assam police have arrested several drug peddlers and mafias from the area. The CM said it was necessary to carry out the eviction drive to free the encroachment and make the area crime-free. 3500 people were residing in the government land, and the administration has evicted it.
