Uttar Pradesh government has decided to rename Faizabad railway junction as Ayodhya Cantt, informed Chief Minister's (CMO) office on Saturday.

"Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken the decision to rename Faizabad railway junction as Ayodhya Cantt," CMO tweeted.

The announcement comes at a time when Uttar Pradesh Police had ordered the All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) to remove posters mentioning Ayodhya as Faizabad in the state.

Posters calling Ayodhya as Faizabad were put up across the district ahead of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi’s visit to the region last week.

The posters drew severe ire of seers who raised objections to Ayodhya’s former name of ‘Faizabad’ being used in the banners.

In November 2018, CM Adityanath had announced that Faizabad district will be known as Ayodhya.
