Guwahati: State chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his first visit after assuming the charge in Dispur, visited Majuli on Thursday and reviewed the Covid-19 situation in the Brahmaputra river island.
Sarma also discussed with a number of Satradhikars (head of Vaisnavite monastery) on various other issues relating to the local residents. After landing at a temporary helipad Sarma first went to Dakhinpaat Satra and prayed for well-being of the people of Assam. He also visited Auniati Satra and Uttar Kamalabari Satra in the island, regarded as the epicentre of Satriya culture & tradition, which is represented by another senior BJP leader and former State CM Sarbananda Sonowal in the legislative assembly.
During his visit, Sarma took a look at the three hundred years old Akshay Banti, which has been preserved at the grand treasury of Dakhinpaat Satra. He also appreciated the fabric prepared by Satra handlooms depicting the 24th incarnation of Lord Bishnu. Satradhikar Nanigopal Devagoswami presented him some silver coins of Ahom era as a symbolic wish for economic growth of the State.
Then Sarma paid visits to Auniati and Uttar Kamalabari Satra and took blessings from Satradhikar Pitambor Devagoswami and Satradhikar Janardan Devagoswami. He also interacted with both the Satradhikars along with Padma Shree Gopiram Borgayan Burhabhakat and other devotees present on the occasion.
It may be mentioned that Sarma assigned different districts to the his cabinet colleagues to specially look after for containing the Covid-19 pandemic effectively. Sarma has taken the responsibility of Majuli district, where P&RD minister Ranjit Kumar Dass is assigned Barpeta, Bajali and Bongaigaon districts. State agriculture minister Atul Bora supposes to loom after Jorhat and Golaghat districts.
Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baksa districts remain the responsibility of State handloom & textiles minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma. State industries & commerce minister CM Patowary will look after Nalbari, Kamrup and Udalguri districts. Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts will be taken care by State environment minister Parimal Shuklabaidya.
State health minister Keshav Mahanta will be responsible for Nagaon and Hojai districts, where Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts rest with State education minister Dr Ranuj Pegu. State urban development minister Ashok Singhal will take care of Sonitpur, Darrang and Biswanath districts. West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts rest on State revenue minister Jogen Mohan.
State finance minister Ajanta Neog will take care of Dhubri and Lakhimpur districts, where Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts will be responsibility of State tea tribes welfare minister Sanjay Kishan. Morigaon and Goalpara districts remain with State water resources minister Pijush Hazarika where Sivasagar and Charaideo districts will be taken care by State power minister Bimal Bora.
The ministers are expected to monitor the trend in the number of corona cases in their respective districts along with the compliance of Covid-19 related restrictions among the residents. They will assess the adequacy of health care facilities to meet the present and anticipated number of corona cases besides guiding the district administrations and finally keep the CMO and State health & family welfare ministry informing about the situation regularly.
