The Justice BS Chauhan inquiry commission, approved by the Supreme Court to look into the gangster Vikas Dubey encounter case, has found no evidence against the police personnel.
Gangster Vikas Dubey and his five associates were killed in different encounters with police in July last year.
Dubey and his associates had attacked a police team in the night of July 3 in Bikru village in Uttar Pradesh, killing nine policemen, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The Uttar Pradesh police had arrested Dubey in Madhya Pradesh on July 9 last year.
While being transported to Uttar Pradesh, Dubey tried to flee and was killed in an encounter.
Five PILs were filed in the Supreme Court alleging Dubey and his associates were killed in fake encounters.
The Uttar Pradesh government had constituted a panel of retired Supreme Court judge Justice BS Chauhan, retired Allahabad High Court judge Justice Shashi Kant Agarwal and former DGP K L Gupta. The Supreme Court had approved the committee.
The Times of India had reported the panel had served a summons to the wife of the deceased gangster and his other relatives to record their statements. But none appeared before the panel.
